Now this is what I call a real galaxy! This photo is of Andromeda. A galaxy that shall one day collide with the Milky Way! It's our closest galactic neighbor and can be seen as a small smudge in the night sky. Funny enough, when we do smash together, the stars in each are so far apart that we'll just pass through each other! Then gravity will suck us back into a new galaxy called "Milk-omeda" ....REALLY! The two super massive black holes at the center of each will merge, perhaps causing a gamma-ray burst. Spectacular!
Anyway, it's a dreamy image and great desktop background. My screen is glowing.
